Dayton Track Club Spring 5k Training Program
Ever wanted to train for a 5k? Wanting to get back to doing 5ks? Now you can! And meet some great friends along the way!
Training for a 5k takes motivation and effort but YOU CAN DO IT! This program is designed for novice runners or those who are looking to get back to running.
Throughout an 8-week period you will train for the 5k distance while making running an enjoyable and important part of your daily lifestyle.
The training program includes an entry to the Memorial Day 5k, which will serve as a mid-program check-point. You will be encouraged to sign up for another 5k at the end of the training program to see how much you can improve!
Coaches: Brad and Heather Wells
Heather first learned to run in eighth grade, when she joined the track team. Many years later, in January 2009, she started running again to keep herself motivated when she quit smoking. She ran her first 5k in 2010, and was hooked. She has now finished 5 half marathons, including one as a guide for a visually impaired athlete. Her favorite places to run are the trails in metroparks.
Running has helped Heather combat depression and addiction, and she advocates exercise as the first step to help improve mental health, as well as whole body wellness.
Brad has been running off and on since junior high. Running became more integrated into his life after getting married and making it a part of his everyday wellness. The best part about running is more than the physical wellness but the overwhelmingly positive group of runners found when joining the Dayton community. After 4 half marathons, Brad is gearing up for his first full marathon in October.
Heather and Brad have been married for over 11 years, and have 4 children, ages 19, 16, 9, and 7, and a house panther named Molotov (Mollie), who adopted them in 2021.
Dates: April 25th through June 18th
Days: Tuesday evenings and Saturday Mornings
Where: Centrally located running spots in the Dayton area (i.e. Lane Stadium, bike path by Carillon, etc.)
