About

The High School XC Leadership Programs with Dayton Track Club offers an inclusive leadership opportunity designed to foster self-awareness, emotional intelligence, interpersonal effectiveness, and problem-solving skills specific to sport.

Cost

$75.00 per participant total (for all 3 days)

Criteria

  • Rising sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • Demonstrates motivation to learn, enthusiasm for the sport, and commitment to serving. 
  • Expresses interest in understanding and serving their team.
  • Demonstrates potential for leadership.

Schedule

8:00-8:30 am - Check-In

8:30-9:30 am - Welcome/Group Run

9:30-10:15 am - Session #1 / Snack

10:15-11:00 am - Session #2

11:00-11:30 pm - Lunch 

11:30-12:15 pm - Session #3

12:15-12:30 pm - Debrief

What to Bring

  • Running clothes/shoes (be prepared to run each day between 8:30-9:30am)
  • Water bottle (we will provide extra water and electrolyte, as well as ice and cooling sponges)
  • Snack(s)
  • Packed Lunch
  • Change of clothes
  • Towel
  • Medications (e.g., inhaler, EPIPEN, etc.) - please let camp staff know upon check-in!

Speakers/Facilitators

  • Emily Zimmerman - Former competitor for the University of Dayton, with a personal best of 16:42 in the 5k. She also placed 2nd at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships  in 10k with a time of 35:30.32.  Emily has coached at the HS level and continues to compete as part of Dayton Track Club Elite where she recently won the Flying Pig 10k and placed in the top field at the Columbus 10k. 
  • Katie Ruhlman - Currently Assistant Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Cedarville University. As an athlete, she ran middle distance for Cedarville and continues to run competitively for Dayton Track Club Elite. After switching to the marathon, Katie qualified for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and won the 2023 Air Force Marathon.
  • Noah Schaub -  Currently Assistant XC and Track Coach at Wright State University. As an athlete, Noah was an NCAA All-American in the 3k and steeplechase (4th palce), 2 x All-MAC in XC, 4 x GMAC champion in track, 2 x GMAC Athlete of the Year. Personal bests: 8:50 in the 3k steeplechase and 14:15 in the 5k.
  • Jimmy Weckesser - Currently the Head Coach Men’s XC at Centerville HS. Ran at Centerville high school, college and post collegiately. Coached at Alter High School (2001-2002), Centerville (2002-2010, 2014-present), and Beavercreek (2011-2021).  
  • Julie Mercado - Current Assistant Coach at Springboro High School and competitor for Dayton Track Club Elite, Julie continues to score in the 90th percentile, grading her as “world class” athlete in the masters ranking system. She was also inducted into the Dayton Distance Hall of Fame in 2021. She competed at the collegiate level, earning four-time All-American in cross country and track.
  • Chelsey Woods - Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Personal Trainer, and Head Coach for Dayton Track Club's 5k-50k Training Groups.  As an athlete, Chelsey walked-on to the track and XC team at BGSU, but transitioned to ultramarathons (50k-50 Mile) after college. She continues to compete as part of Dayton Track Club Elite.
  • Sara George - Former Communications instructor at Sinclair Community College. Sara developed a love and talent for running a little later in life, and currently competes for Dayton Track Club Elite where she holds one of the fastest marathon times for the women's team (2:47 at Chicago 2023).
