About the Event
About the Series:
Throughout this 8-week run-yoga series, learn how to improve focus, manage stressors, and regulate emotions through movement.
Run Leader: Chelsey Woods
Chelsey is a licensed professional counselor, licensed massage therapist, and certified personal trainer with over 7 years of integrated coaching/counseling experience. On a personal level, Chelsey credits running for overcoming her bouts of anxiety and depression, and has learned to use her mental struggles to enhance her own running performance.
Yoga Instructors: Christopher Sove & Cynthia Brooks
Christopher Sove, RYT-200, is a yoga and meditation teacher focused on helping students bring body, mind, and emotions into balance, leading to greater peace and life-satisfaction. A former attorney, he understands stress’s substantial negative impact on human beings, and every class he teaches–from the gentlest restorative practice to the most vigorous power class–is intended to address the imbalances inherent in our modern world and bring peace to body and mind.
Christopher loves to explore yoga with a beginner’s mind, playing outside tradition to discover new, effective, and fun ways to bring movement to the body. He has a history as a long-distance runner, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner, and skateboarder, and his yoga teaching is informed by the wide-ranging needs of athletes of all types.
As a meditation teacher who both provides instruction and leads guided meditation, Christopher’s greatest joy is seeing bliss and openness in the eyes of students, knowing they’ve realized the peace that’s always just a breath away. He also has experience teaching meditation to the next generation of yoga teachers in yoga teacher training.
Yoga has been a part of Christopher’s life since the early 80s, when his mother started taking yoga classes at the local YMCA and brought asana home. During the most difficult times in his life, yoga brought comfort and stability in the midst of upheaval. Now, a full-time yoga and meditation teacher who has left behind the corporate world, Christopher is pursuing his life’s work, showing others that there’s another way to live.
Cynthia Brooks
My experience with physical fitness spans fifty years. I encourage it to my eleven grandchildren and for my two great grandchildren. I have taught physical education at the high school level at Miami Valley School, where I was the cross country and swim coach. As part of earning my master's degree in physical education at Wright State University, I taught multiple physical education courses. Additionally, during my thirties and forties I participated in many triathlons and other sporting events at a high level. One of the highlights was being the overall age group female winner of the Ohio Triathlon Series in 1997 and, my ultimate experience, representing the USA in Perth, Australia at the International Triathlon Championship (2000) in my age group. Of course, I’ve had experience in other professions such as being a community counselor for Au Pair in America and as a realtor. But fitness has always been my first love and I have needed and earned certifications in many areas including Johnny G spinning, IDEA personal training, the American Council on Exercise, United States Water Fitness Association, Silver Splash Instructor, Silver Sneakers yoga, Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute, Hydropilates and, most recently, yoga certification. I still teach water aerobics, yoga and, as always, moving my body whether it be yoga, water exercise or walking – it’s been my life calling.
